Yeojin "YJ" Yi who goes by YJ and has a warm reason why, was born in Korea, grew up in Seattle and currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. Raised on home cooked meals often from ingredients that were grown by the hands of her own grandmother, and on recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation, this inspired her connection to community and food. Today YJ shares many of her family’s traditional recipes with her own students. A graduate of the Professional Culinary Arts Program and having worked at Michelin-starred restaurants, YJ is the Associate Director of Culinary Relations at the International Culinary Center (ICC) and gives talks and hosts conversations on urban agriculture, sustainable foods, farm to fork and community.
“Every person has something to share and I value personal connections from sitting next to someone at a communal table, to cooking a meal for an event.”
“I can't remember a time when food wasn't the center of my life. I love to share our human connection to the world. Opening the connections from culture to food and tradition.”
“Let’s open conversation to all, be inclusive, hear options and ideas. Share a common ground with people surrounding you, the ones you cook for, the ones you share your growth with to build a community and identity with food.”
